A bill from the PNL proposes that parties that "affect the image of the country" should no longer receive subsidies from the state.

Ionuț Stroe, PNL deputy, announced the submission of a draft law to Parliament that amends Law no. 334/2006 regarding the financing of political parties. The project introduces clear prohibitions on the use of subsidies from the state budget in activities that may affect the image or interests of Romania. Stroe emphasized that subsidies should not be used to promote radicalization or hatred, mentioning the recent context in which hostile political messages have emerged.

The current legislation does not impose clear limits, and the initiative aims to define these limits to prevent deviations. The project prohibits the use of public funds for activities that contravene the constitutional order or the fundamental interests of the country. Violating these rules will attract legal measures, including the restitution of improperly used amounts and the suspension of subsidies. Stroe called on his parliamentary colleagues to support this legislative initiative.
