PNL announced that it acknowledges President Nicușor Dan’s decision to nominate Luca Niculescu as candidate for the position of prime minister and that it will assess in the coming period whether to support him in Parliament.
The party’s spokesperson, Ionel Bogdan, said that PNL representatives will hold talks with the prime minister-designate about the government program, the priorities undertaken and the government team he intends to propose. Following these consultations, the Liberals will decide how they will vote on the investiture.
Luca Niculescu was nominated on Monday by the President of Romania, following consultations with the parliamentary parties and political formations. It is the fourth nomination for the position of prime minister made by Nicușor Dan, after the previous three attempts to form a government failed.
The President justified his choice by stating that Niculescu would have the greatest chances of securing the support of a parliamentary majority. The head of state also emphasized the need to form a government and adopt the budget for next year.
The prime minister-designate said that he accepts the nomination and that his first task will be to build a parliamentary majority. He called for firmness, vision, stability and reconstruction.
