The Prime Minister-designate, possibly Ilie Bolojan, could go to Brussels on Friday to discuss possible sanctions against Romania, in the context of the record budget deficit generated by the Ciolacu government. Acting Finance Minister Tanczos Barna will not attend the Ecofin meeting, citing lack of legitimacy. Romania risks sanctions that could affect EU funds and the next government will propose drastic measures to reduce the deficit, including spending cuts and tax hikes.
