Nicușor Dan declared on Wednesday that the Petrotel refinery could be reopened in a few weeks, considering that the American side granted a six-month waiver, valid until the end of October. This waiver is essential, given that the refinery produces diesel, a product with high demand in the global market.
Nicușor Dan mentioned that there are technical challenges to overcome, but work is being done intensively to make the refinery operational. In the context of a possible diesel crisis caused by instability in the Middle East, he emphasized that Romania is in a favorable position due to domestic production and extraction. Former Energy Minister, Bogdan Ivan, previously announced that the refinery could be reopened in 45 days, which would ensure 21% of the country's fuel production. The refinery's activity was suspended in October last year for technical revisions, but it has not resumed due to international sanctions.
