Oana Gheorghiu, the Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, reacted to the statements of the co-founder of the NGO Dăruiește Viață, Carmen Uscatu, who claimed that her appointment in the Government could affect the organization's activity. Gheorghiu clarified that there is no interference between her governmental duties and the NGO's activity, mentioning that she had self-suspended from her executive position and from the Board of Directors of the Association before taking on the role of Deputy Prime Minister, according to the legislation on incompatibilities.
She emphasized that her status as a founding member does not imply a legal incompatibility and that she has complied with all legal regulations. Gheorghiu expressed hope that Uscatu's statements do not reflect an intention to exclude her from the organization and showed openness to discussions to clarify the situation. Uscatu mentioned that, although it is not illegal, Gheorghiu's appointment could discourage the NGO's sponsors.
