Laurențiu Nistor asked Sorin Grindeanu to stop Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan from cutting the budget surpluses of the municipalities, even threatening to break the Coalition. During a PSD conference, Nistor emphasized that mayors need these funds to complete investments and suggested that, if necessary, mayors and miners could organize a strike. Nistor has also been criticized for his previous threats when he said he would take people with disabilities out into the streets of the county.

In response, PNL senator Călin Petru Marian condemned the use of miners as a political tool, emphasizing that they deserve respect and not manipulation.
