President Nicușor Dan will organize a new meeting at Cotroceni with the leaders of PSD, PNL, UDMR, and USR next week, in an attempt to de-escalate the current political crisis, political sources have stated.
This meeting is expected to take place before the president leaves for an external trip on April 27. Since the withdrawal of political support for Bolojan by PSD, the parties have remained firm in their positions, without progress in resolving the conflict. Nicușor Dan, although he does not have the constitutional power to intervene directly, proposes to mediate discussions between the pro-European parties to overcome the political deadlock. PSD ministers have submitted their resignations, and PSD has announced that it will support the adoption of the necessary normative acts until a new government is formed. At the end of previous consultations, the leaders discussed the possibility of a minority government, and USR expressed its openness to support such an option.
President Nicușor Dan, who is in Cyprus for the informal meeting of the European Council, was asked if he would call the parties for consultations at Cotroceni again, to which the president replied that "something will surely happen next week."
