President Nicușor Dan convened a new round of negotiations at the Cotroceni Palace with the leaders of PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR to discuss the new Law on the Salaries of Public Employees, scheduled for Thursday. This reform is essential within the framework of the PNRR, with a deadline at the end of August, and failure to meet this deadline could lead to losses of 770 million euros.
Although previous discussions did not lead to a final form of the project, the parties are awaiting a new version before the meeting. PNL has proposed convening Parliament in an extraordinary session to adopt the law on time. The negotiations are complicated by possible revenue decreases in Education and Health, and the president emphasized that he will not promulgate a law that affects the salaries of these categories. The reform must correct the imbalances in the public system, but high costs and union demands complicate the process. The adoption deadline is August 31, and there is great pressure on the current interim Government.
