The debates on the state budget for the year 2026 began on Thursday evening in the joint plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, with the participation of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. He emphasized that the budget reflects the economic realities of the country and warned against returning to the wasteful habits of the past. A total of 391 out of 463 parliamentarians were present at the meeting, which was chaired by the President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean. Initially, the debates were scheduled for Wednesday, but they were suspended in the budget-finance committees due to the opposition from PSD, which requested the approval of an amendment regarding the social package. After negotiations, the coalition leaders reached an agreement, and the committees gave a favorable report for the state budget and the social security budget for 2026.
