Ilie Bolojan, the interim Prime Minister of Romania, stated that PNL will not support a government led by Sorin Grindeanu, emphasizing the responsibility of PSD to form a majority after the motion of no confidence:
"So it is logically the responsibility of PSD to take on the responsibility of forming a parliamentary majority and to come up with solutions to rectify things, solutions that they have not presented for 10 months."
In a statement to Digi24, Bolojan criticized the actions of PSD, which have led to a political crisis, and highlighted the need for a functional government to continue implementing the milestones from PNRR. He mentioned that PNL will not repeat the mistakes of the past, when a coalition was formed only for positions:
"What the coalition of 2024 did wrong was that it did not make these reforms but only shared positions".
Bolojan emphasized that a minority government does not provide stability and predictability, and PNL, USR, and UDMR must take on responsibility in case PSD fails to form a new government:
"Any minority government does not have the stability and predictability of a majority government, and if PSD fails to form a government or shirks responsibility, surely the others must take it on, and PNL, USR, and UDMR do not believe they will shy away".
He also discussed the modernization of PNL and the need to respect commitments to citizens:
"We, PNL, need to modernize the party and I want to make this party one respected by many more Romanians so that you do not reach government with 15%. When you want to do important things and you have to do them, strong action has a reaction just as strong. The systems you want to dismantle do not stay quiet. If you do not have strength and there is no popular support, you cannot overcome these difficulties."
Ilie Bolojan also spoke about the support received from voters, stating that he sees it as a signal of support for the modernization of Romania and for reforms based on fairness, clear rules, and economic development. At the same time, he emphasized that changes cannot be made without solid political support:
"I have said before that the support I received from citizens I understood as support for a modern Romania which means fairness in administration, rules for all, a developing economy, encouraging work. There is nothing that can be enhanced, as suggested, and it is the decision of the people and I thank them because it is also one of the reasons I chose to fight.
That is why there is a need for a political vehicle to do what needs to be done, but there must be support and strength, otherwise it is hard with a fragmented parliament."
