Hubert Thuma, the president of CJ Ilfov and a challenger to Ilie Bolojan from within the PNL, criticized on Sunday the leadership structure proposed by Bolojan, stating that "the USR-ization of PNL is not a simple accusation, but a process." Thuma emphasized that Bolojan, who is running for the leadership of PNL with the motion "Modernization with Roots," has included in his team people who have recently become liberals. Among them is Dragoș Pîslaru, who had a poor result as party leader in December 2024.
Thuma highlighted that the 12 presidents of county councils and thousands of local elected officials, who supported the party in difficult times, are now excluded from leadership in favor of newcomers. The extraordinary congress of PNL is taking place at Romexpo, where the liberals are electing their new leadership. Bolojan proposed a team consisting of Dan Motreanu as First Vice President and Robert Sighiartău as Secretary General, among others.
