PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu announced that the Social Democrats have given Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare two weeks to present Parliament with Romania’s up-to-date financial situation. Grindeanu maintains that only after this briefing should potential budget revisions be discussed.

The statement was made in the context of one or even two budget revisions being considered, and the PSD leader was asked where the necessary funds would come from. Grindeanu said that he is not the prime minister and that details regarding financing must be provided by the Finance Minister and government officials responsible.

According to the estimates presented by the Social Democratic leader, the financial need already exceeds 30 billion lei. Approximately 16 billion lei would represent work completed by contractors but not invoiced, while another 10–12 billion lei would be needed to run the state until the end of the year. An additional approximately 5 billion lei would be required to pay certain court rulings.

Grindeanu said that Minister Alexandru Nazare, who is ensuring continuity at the Finance Ministry, must present the situation at a meeting of the joint Houses of Parliament, without interpretations. After this stage, the authorities would discuss the budget revision and the other financial measures.

Context: Nazare called for up-to-date assessments before budget adjustments, while warnings about the budgetary impact were also linked to the political crisis

Before discussions about budget adjustments, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare requested an up-to-date assessment of PNRR funds ahead of the 2026 budget adjustment and the preparation of the 2027 budget, asking for updated information on the amounts received, expenses incurred, unfinished investments, and remaining financial obligations. He mentioned that more than 300 million euros, related to payment request number 3, had entered the State Treasury the previous week.

At the same time, Nazare warned that legislative initiatives with an additional budgetary impact, especially during extraordinary sessions, could complicate both the closing of the year and the drafting of the 2027 budget. The statements were made in the context of rating agencies monitoring Romania’s situation and the risks related to fiscal credibility.
