AUR President George Simion publicly asked designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu whether he would lead the “PSD government,” after Niculescu announced that he had identified common ground in discussions with the PSD, PNL and UDMR. The comment was posted on Facebook following the political meetings held that same day.
“So, will you be the prime minister of the PSD government?” Simion wrote in a comment on Niculescu’s post, in which Niculescu discussed the need for a solution to break the political and economic deadlock.
The AUR leader’s reaction reprises accusations made earlier in an online video. Simion claimed that “a major fix” was being prepared and that the PSD was expected to govern, using Luca Niculescu as prime minister so that it would not have to fully assume responsibility for the unpopular measures that would follow.
In the same statement, Simion made accusations against Ilie Bolojan and claimed, without presenting evidence, that Bolojan would vote for the future government. The statements come amid negotiations to form a majority and establish a governing formula.
Luca Niculescu said that the PSD, PNL and UDMR had shown openness to responsible governance and that all three formations supported adherence to the fiscal and economic parameters assumed by Romania.
