The former Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană, stated that the decision of the Romanian Parliament to allow the temporary deployment of American capabilities in the country is a correct and necessary one. This will strengthen the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership, especially in a context where U.S. priorities seemed to be shifting towards other regions.
The Parliament recently approved the proposal of President Nicușor Dan, which allows the United States to use the Mihail Kogălniceanu base for activities related to military operations in Iran. Geoană emphasized the importance of this decision for Romania's strategic role within NATO and for the American presence in the Black Sea, highlighting its demonstrated utility in recent conflicts in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
