Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan stated, after the proposed Government failed to win a vote in Parliament, that the PNL, USR, and UDMR had worked “seriously and responsibly” on a concrete and reform-oriented government program. He thanked the representatives of the three formations and argued that they had presented Parliament with a solution to end the political crisis.
The designated Prime Minister criticized the lawmakers and parties that voted against the Government, stating that the formations that triggered the crisis had, through their vote, opted to prolong it. Mureșan specified that the PNL, USR, and UDMR would continue to support the reforms they consider necessary and efforts to stabilize the country.
Going forward, the three parties are waiting to see what the next steps of the President of Romania will be.
The Government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan did not receive the votes necessary for approval in the Romanian Parliament on Wednesday, deepening the political crisis. According to the announced results, 182 lawmakers voted in favor and 15 against, with the proposed Cabinet failing to secure the required majority.
The rejection of the Mureșan Cabinet comes after the Government led by Adrian Veștea failed in the investiture vote on June 22, 2026, when it received 189 votes in favor and 23 against.
