Mihai Fifor asks Radu Miruță to explain the presence of three generals at his hearing for the position of Minister of Defense: “Who ordered their participation?”

Former Minister of Defence Mihai Fifor is asking current interim minister Radu Miruță for explanations regarding the presence of three Romanian Army generals at his hearing for the position of Minister of Defence. The PSD deputy submitted an interpellation on Tuesday requesting clarifications about the order underlying the military personnel’s participation, the legal basis, and their mission.

Fifor emphasizes that, at the hearing on 28 September, Radu Miruță did not yet hold the position of minister, but was the candidate nominated for the portfolio, appearing before the Senate and Chamber of Deputies’ joint defence committees. In this context, the former minister considers it necessary to establish why three officers holding the rank of general participated in the parliamentary procedure.

The interpellation addressed to the Ministry of National Defence concerns the identities of the three generals, the person who ordered or approved their presence, the official capacity in which they participated, and the existence of any orders, directives, or mandates. Fifor also asks whether the military personnel were officially requested by the parliamentary committees and what specific mission was entrusted to each of them.

The PSD deputy maintains that, if Parliament did not request their participation, the ministry must explain who ordered the use of the institution’s resources. He states that any potential breaches of the legal framework would go beyond a mere matter of protocol and requests that the relevant documents be provided, provided they are not classified.
