The Ministry of National Defence explains the presence of officers at Minister Radu Miruță’s hearing before the parliamentary committees

The Ministry of National Defence explains the presence of several military personnel at the hearing of Minister Radu Miruță, held on Monday, September 28, before the joint parliamentary committees for defence, public order and national security.

According to a statement issued by the institution, the officers’ participation is a routine practice of the Ministry of National Defence and not an exceptional situation. Specialists from departments such as the General Directorate for Armaments, the General Directorate for Financial and Accounting Affairs, and the Department for Relations with Parliament and Personnel Quality of Life routinely assist ministers at confirmation hearings.

The military personnel’s role was to provide deputies and senators with accurate, up-to-date information in response to questions about defence procurement programs, the ministry’s budgets or human resources. The Ministry of National Defence states that their presence was for technical support and did not require official mandates of representation.

The institution maintains that the military personnel’s activity was conducted legally, based on Law No. 80/1995 on the status of military personnel, Law No. 346/2006 on the organization of the Ministry of National Defence, and the Internal Regulations for the Unit, approved by Order M 38/2016.
