Former presidential candidate Elena Lasconi criticized the concept of “healthy nationalism,” recently invoked by President Nicușor Dan, in an interview with Digi24’s “În fața ta” program. She argued that such wording has no clear content and that politicians should be judged by the concrete measures they adopt for Romania, not by statements or symbolic gestures.
“That’s nonsense. There’s no such thing. What do you mean, ‘healthy nationalism’?” Elena Lasconi said when asked about the president’s statement.
The former candidate also criticized the use of patriotism in election campaigns, saying that politicians tend to invoke traditions, faith and national identity only during election periods. In her view, attachment to the country must be demonstrated through results and projects completed during their terms in office.
Lasconi cited schools, hospitals, clinics, nurseries, roads and parks for children as examples, saying they represent concrete achievements left behind by her. She asked those in government what they had actually done for the country.
The full interview will be broadcast on Saturday, September 26, on Digi24, starting at 2:00 p.m.
