USR deputies Pollyanna Hangan and Iulian Lorincz, together with PNL deputy Alina Gorghiu, have initiated a bill that allows spouses to keep the name acquired during marriage without needing the consent of the former spouse. This legislative change aims to simplify the divorce process by eliminating the need to go to court to prove the reasons for keeping the name. The project aims to reduce bureaucracy, saving time and money, and will facilitate the lives of divorced women, who will no longer be required to change all their personal documents.

Additionally, it is estimated that this measure will have a positive impact on Romanians in the Diaspora, who face difficulties in keeping their name in front of Romanian authorities. The project also aims to eliminate situations where the consent of the former spouse becomes a tool of pressure. Deputy Hangan emphasizes that this initiative is not only administrative but also emotional, providing women the freedom to maintain their identity and connection with their children.
