Cristian Popescu Piedone was appointed as head of the ANPC despite being sentenced to four years in prison for abuse of office in connection with the tragedy at the Colectiv nightclub. He was released in 2023 after being granted an extraordinary appeal in the Colectiv case. He has also run for the mayoralty of the capital and for a senatorial seat for the Giurgiu PSD.
