Cătălin Drulă, former Minister of Transport, criticized on Facebook the increase in subway travel costs, which he considers a "PSD trick." He highlighted that the main problem of Metrorex is the increase in personnel expenses, which have risen by 328% in the last 10 years. Drulă compared the number of employees at Metrorex (5,000) and STB (10,000) with the transport system in Vienna, which has 9,000 employees for an integrated system. He also pointed out that the subsidy granted to Metrorex has significantly increased, from 300 million in 2016 to 1 billion currently. Drulă criticized the fare increases, stating that the impact on Metrorex's revenues will be minor, but it will significantly affect travelers, forcing them to opt for more polluting alternatives. In the end, he suggested that Metrorex should renegotiate the maintenance contract with Alstom, instead of raising fares.
