Former president Traian Băsescu commented on the criticisms directed at Ilie Bolojan, the PNL prime minister, noting that although politicians attack him, no one offers to take his place. Băsescu emphasized that the liberals and socialists are responsible for the current crisis:

"The liberals and socialists, they generated the crisis, as some were indifferent to the deficit, if you remember. I quote from the classic idiots of this country. Everyone is cursing Bolojan, no one wants to take his place. So he is somewhat sacrificed."

Băsescu proposed that Bolojan start the administrative reform "so that the elections in 2028 can take place under the new administrative structure." Băsescu criticized the 10% cuts in local administration, considering that the real solution is administrative reform. Instead of raising taxes, Băsescu would have opted for the cancellation of bonuses for public employees, which were included in salaries through a previous law. He argued that, through this measure, the private sector would not have been affected, and the budget deficit would have been managed more efficiently.

Băsescu concluded that Bolojan's strategy of raising taxes in all sectors was wrong, suggesting that he should have focused on the areas that generate problems.
