The Alba Iulia City Hall has decided to ban political demonstrations on December 1, in order to ensure the solemn conduct of the events dedicated to Romania’s National Day. Only patriotic, commemorative, and anniversary events will be permitted.
The decision comes after incidents recorded at last year’s festivities, when heckling, pushing, and clashes between participants took place. The then-Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, was repeatedly booed by sovereigntist groups present in Alba Iulia.
Mayor Gabriel Pleșa stated that the local administration would no longer tolerate such behavior and that any political rallies could be organized before or after December 1, in compliance with legal procedures.
The mayor cited Law 60, which requires the necessary permits to be obtained for organizing public demonstrations. The responsible commission includes representatives of the City Hall, the Gendarmerie, the Police Inspectorate, and the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
Individuals or groups that violate the rules and organize political events without the necessary approvals risk sanctions, with the authorities announcing that the law will be strictly enforced.
