The Alternative for Germany (AfD), far-right, leads in opinion polls, having 26% of voting intentions, according to a survey published by ZDF.

In the case of federal elections next Sunday, the conservative CDU/CSU bloc of Chancellor Friedrich Merz would obtain 25%, one percentage point less than in March. Support for the Social Democrats (SPD) has dropped to 12%, the lowest level recorded by ZDF. At this level, a coalition between CDU/CSU and SPD would not have a majority in parliament. The Greens are rated at 14%, and the Left Party (Die Linke) at 11%. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) was reported at 3%. The survey was conducted between April 14-16 on a sample of 1,355 people. AfD has been placed first in recent polls conducted by other institutes, such as YouGov, INSA, and Forsa.
