At the initiative of Italy and Denmark, 22 states of the European Union, including Romania, have requested the urgent convening of an extraordinary council of interior ministers.

This meeting, which will take place via videoconference, aims to discuss measures for border protection in response to the immigration crisis in Ceuta, Spain. The open letter is signed by important leaders, including President Nicușor Dan. The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, emphasized the urgency of European action against illegal immigration, calling for the strengthening of external borders and combating human trafficking.

Measures are also needed to streamline the procedures for returning immigrants. The signatories of the letter state that the defense of external borders is a common responsibility of Europe and that a coordinated and immediate response to current challenges is essential.
