Romanians working abroad have the chance to access a financial product that not only comes with certain advantages regarding money transfers to their family in Romania, but also offers the possibility to receive back 5% of the value of purchases made in Europe.

Banca Transilvania (BT), the largest bank in Romania, has launched a campaign dedicated to Romanians in the diaspora. The campaign is built around the current account package from BT Pay and includes a 5% cash-back on the value of purchases made in the country or abroad, up to a limit of 100 euros.

BT thus tries to cover a concrete, technical need, while also creating a connection that is easier to access within the family. "BT Pay helps you stay connected with family and friends in Romania, to send and receive money quickly, and to manage everything directly on your phone – pay bills, check transactions, exchange currency. You can manage everything from a distance without depending on BT's schedule or time zone differences. Plus, you have a Romanian card that you can use anywhere in the world, but also at home when you return to the country," the bank specifies.

One of the most important features of the service adapted for Romanians in the diaspora is that for most operations, the commission is zero. Thus, transfers can be made in lei or in other currencies without costs, and card operations, whether online or physical payments.

How to access BT Pay and what other features does the product have

Romanians in the diaspora must go through three steps to enter the campaign.

- Open a BT account in lei through the BT Pay app, until April 23, 2026, inclusive.

- Use the BT card in euros, issued as part of the campaign, for purchases anywhere in the world, both in physical stores and online. These must be made within three months from the opening of the account at our bank (until April 23, 2026).

- Go to the BT Diaspora website and complete the registration form and enjoy receiving 5% cashback (maximum 100 euros) from the value of your purchases.

BT Pay, step by step:

1. Download the app, have an account and card

You can find the app in Google Play, App Store or Huawei App Gallery. In a few minutes you can open

the account at BT directly from the app and instantly receive a debit card in lei (digital), ready to use. Because it is useful for you, but also to be part of the campaign, it is necessary to also issue a BT card in euros through the app - we have several options, you can see them here.

2. Receive the physical card anywhere in the world

If you also need a physical card, upon request in BT Pay, fill in the delivery address, and we will send you the physical card. Yes, the card comes to you, anywhere in the world. This is, of course, the BT card in lei or euros which is not only in digital form.

3. You can also add cards from other countries

In BT Pay you can enroll cards issued by other banks or fintechs from other countries.

4. You can easily fund the card

You can transfer money to the BT account directly from the app, from any card enrolled in BT Pay, whether it is issued abroad or in Romania.
