In the current context of the Romanian financial markets, Romanians who want to buy a home on credit are faced with unusual offers, where interest rates for real estate loans are lower than those for deposits. At least five large or medium-sized banks have such offers, despite the economic instability. Banks keep deposit interest rates high to attract people's savings, competing with the state, which borrows at 7-8%. Interest rates on deposits thus range between 5-8%, while home loans are offered at more favorable rates.
