The Ministry of Development is proposing, as part of a draft administrative reform, that local authorities should have the right to seize the social benefits of recipients who accumulate debts to the local budget. Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna emphasized that the measure comes at a time when many citizens receive social benefits without paying taxes. The draft also includes other instruments to force taxpayers to pay their debts, such as restrictions on the issuing of building permits and car registration.
