Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, about the reform of local administration: "Without its adoption, we practically do not capitalize on the potential of local public administration (...) and we do not reduce an important component of expenses that the Romanian state can no longer bear in the coming years."

In a press conference, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan highlighted the seriousness of the budget deficit and emphasized the need for reforming local public administration to reduce state expenditures. Although he proposed a reform package to control personnel costs, the divergences within the coalition have hindered its advancement.
"There will also be a first reflection of local public administration in Romania that you will be able to analyze. If we want to achieve a 5% reduction in personnel, it means we should reduce the maximum number by at least 30%. We conducted a simulation and, out of over 3,200 local administrative units, personnel should be reduced in less than 1,000. This means that in these localities, there is certainly oversized personnel," said Ilie Bolojan at the press conference.
