The Superior Council of the Magistracy (SCM) has taken up a statement by the international organization MEDEL, which denounces the campaign to denigrate the Romanian judiciary as a threat to the rule of law. MEDEL points out that political attacks can encourage disrespect for court rulings and violence against magistrates. Recently, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced reforms aimed at raising the retirement age and changing the percentage of pensions, prompting negative reactions from the CSM and court leaders across the country. They are concerned about the impact of these measures on the independence of the judiciary.
