The attack took place in the Tillaberi region near the village of Tassia, close to the border with Burkina Faso. The Ministry of Defense announced three days of national mourning, starting Wednesday, following the ambush the previous day. The attack was carried out by a coalition of armed groups, and soldiers killed dozens of fighters in their defense. Nine others were wounded in the attack. The authorities have not publicly named any of the groups involved.
