The attack took place in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, where the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) are returning to the violent methods of the 2000s. TTP claimed a sophisticated attack on a military convoy, during which weapons were captured. This is one of the most serious recent attacks, coming after other violence in the area. Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban of supporting the insurgents, while Afghanistan denies these accusations, in turn accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorist groups. In 2024, Pakistan recorded a record number of violence, with over 1,600 deaths.
