Nicu Ștefănuță, vice-president of the European Parliament, will lead a delegation of 72 MEPs to Budapest Pride, an event banned by Viktor Orban, who says the law is needed to protect children. Backed by the liberal mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, the parade will take place on 28 June and Mr Ștefănuță will deliver a message of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. Despite threats of "legal consequences" from Orban, he stresses the importance of equality and human dignity.
