The Matei Balș Hospital, an emergency services firm and several people have been charged with abuse of service and culpable destruction following the fire of January 29, 2021, which resulted in 9 deaths. The investigation determined that of the 26 deaths, only 9 were related to the fire. It is suspected that the hospital tolerated the use of external heating sources in areas of high oxygen, which led to the fire. The allegations also cover irregularities in public procurement related to emergency services.
