In an interview with the Financial Times, Apostolos Tzitzikostas stressed the need to modernize Europe's roads, bridges and railways to allow the rapid movement of military equipment in the event of conflict with Russia. The €17 billion will be used to build and widen infrastructure, with four military corridors involving around 500 projects planned. The allocation will be made over the period 2028-2034, separate from the defense budget of 5% of member countries' GDP.
