The environmental agreement obtained at the government meeting aims to modernize Reactor 1 at Cernavodă and expand the storage capacity for spent fuel. This will enable the reactor to operate safely for 30 years, generating 700 MW of clean and stable energy and reducing CO2 emissions by 5 million tons annually. The reactor provides 10% of Romania's electricity, providing a stable source of energy and helping to save on energy bills for consumers. Nuclearelectrica, the company in charge, is under the authority of the energy ministry, with the Romanian state holding the majority of shares.
