Veterinarians in Iasi are reporting an alarming increase in rabies cases, with 20 confirmed outbreaks, and specialists warn that the number could break the 2013 record, blamed on the war in Ukraine, which has prevented the vaccination of wild animals. The Infectious Diseases Hospital in Iasi has requested an extra budget to cope with the increased number of patients, while the Public Health Department has emphasized how rabies can be transmitted through bites or contact with secretions of infected animals. Symptoms can range from a few days to a year, including fever, weakness and, in advanced stages, hallucinations and muscle spasms.
