Zoom has announced a new partnership with World, a digital identity company backed by Sam Altman, to help users verify the authenticity of participants in meetings. This initiative comes against the backdrop of increasing deepfake fraud in business environments, where companies like Arup have suffered significant losses due to money transfers approved during video calls with AI impostors. The new technology, called "World ID Deep Face", combines three signals to verify identity: an image captured at the time of registration, a live facial scan, and real-time video stream from the meeting. When all three elements match, the participant receives a "Verified Human" badge. This solution is particularly valuable in fields such as finance, legal operations, and sensitive approvals. World is also expanding partnerships with other platforms, such as Tinder and Visa, highlighting the trend of integrating identity verification into trusted digital infrastructure. In the AI era, cybersecurity is no longer limited to protecting systems but also includes verifying identity in every interaction.
