Romania has taken a new step in space exploration by launching the EMISAR satellite, which was placed in orbit on Monday aboard a SpaceX rocket. Approximately three hours after launch, the satellite transmitted its first signals to the ground station, confirming the success of the mission.

EMISAR, a small CubeSat, has the primary goal of testing a 'store-and-forward' communication system, allowing the collection and retransmission of messages between ground stations. The project was developed by Romanian InSpace Engineering, in collaboration with the Institute of Space Sciences, RARTEL, and the Maritime University of Constanta. The launch took place from Vandenberg Space Force Base, and EMISAR was placed in orbit alongside 118 other satellites. The project was completed in less than two years, using commercial components and a complete design chain developed in Romania.
