The network is being developed by Starshield, a division of SpaceX, and will provide Earth imaging capabilities. The contract underlines SpaceX's growing involvement in US military and intelligence projects. The satellites will be able to track ground targets and transmit imaging data and other communications over the network using inter-satellite lasers.
