European car manufacturers, including Renault, are working on developing electric motors to mitigate the risks associated with supply chains from China. At the end of 2023, Renault announced a collaboration with Valeo for third-generation electric motors. Although the initial project with Valeo was abandoned, the E7A motor will be developed mainly in France, with the exception of the stator, which may come from a Chinese supplier due to competitive costs. A spokesperson for Renault's Ampere division mentioned that discussions are ongoing, and the possibility of moving stator production to France is being explored. Renault has established partnerships with companies in China to remain competitive in electrification, and the new motor without rare earths will be used until 2028 for the next generation of compact electric cars.
