Nebius has launched an ambitious project for a data center dedicated to artificial intelligence in Lappeenranta, Finland, with a capacity of 310 megawatts (MW). This center is designed as an "AI factory," optimized for high-performance workloads, and aligns with the company's long-term goals of reaching a total capacity of 2.5 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2026 and 3.3 GW by 2030. The facility will use a closed-loop liquid cooling system, reducing water consumption and integrating into the city's heating network, thus contributing to sustainability. The project will create up to 700 jobs during construction and approximately 100 permanent jobs after operationalization, expected to become functional in 2027. This initiative comes in the context of a rapid expansion of data centers in Europe, with a total capacity of 14,784 MW by 2025. Projects like Nebius's highlight the importance of dedicated AI infrastructure, which is becoming a strategic asset in the digital economy.
