UBB researchers have discovered fossils of a species of crocodile from the Gavial group, which lived in Romania 34-48 million years ago.

The fossils discovered were collected over a century, but have not been studied in detail until now. They come from several individuals, representing at least five different morphological forms. This discovery is important because it demonstrates the presence of a new group of fossil vertebrates in Romania.
