Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed solidarity with Poland following the shooting attack carried out on Saturday in the center of Kraków, in which five people were killed and several others injured. The leader in Kyiv offered condolences to the victims’ families and called for the perpetrator to be severely punished.
According to police, a man drove into the city’s main square and began firing indiscriminately at passersby. He was wounded by gunfire and detained by law enforcement before being taken to hospital.
Initial information indicates that the suspect was highly knowledgeable about weapons and was wearing a soldier’s uniform at the time of the attack. A witness said they heard several gunshots, while the assailant fled through the crowd toward Wawel Castle.
Polish authorities are investigating the context and all the circumstances surrounding the attack. President Karol Nawrocki and Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek called for calm and promised that the perpetrator would be brought to justice.
