Kirilo Budanov, the chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that a peace agreement with Russia could be achieved by winter, considering this scenario "realistic".
In an interview, Zelensky emphasized the importance of continuing peace negotiations, which have recently stalled, to capitalize on Ukraine's improved strategic position. U.S.-mediated discussions have been blocked due to the focus on the conflict in Iran.
Budanov mentioned that an American delegation could visit Moscow and Kyiv soon, without providing details. He stated that President Zelensky has given clear instructions to try to end the war as quickly as possible, ideally before winter. Additionally, Ukrainian officials have noted a slowdown in Russian advances on the ground, while Ukraine is intensifying its attacks on Russian infrastructure.
A Ukrainian commander mentioned that Ukraine has a six-month window to take the initiative on the battlefield and strengthen its position for peace negotiations.
