Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed on Saturday in Istanbul to begin efforts to establish a new corridor for transporting grain through the Black Sea. The announcement was made at a joint press conference held after talks between the two leaders.

“Today, we reached an agreement with President Erdogan to work on the Black Sea grain corridor,” Zelensky said, quoted by Anadolu.

The Ukrainian president said that Turkey supports efforts to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea and to restore normal living conditions in the region. Ankara is expected to play an important role in guaranteeing maritime security.

A potential new corridor could facilitate the maritime transport of Ukrainian grain amid regional security risks and disruptions to navigation. For now, the leaders have provided no details about the route, operational timeline or specific security mechanisms. This agreement represents the initial stage of diplomatic and technical efforts.
