Volodimir Zelenski has announced a joint action plan to strengthen the justice system, following criticism of a law extending the powers of the prosecutor general over anti-corruption structures. Massive protests have taken place across Ukraine, calling for the law to be repealed and the independence of anti-corruption institutions reaffirmed. Despite concerns expressed by European leaders, Zelenski has promised legislative measures to ensure the independence of these structures. Critics warn that concentrating power in the hands of the executive can undermine democracy, but civil society remains active in defending democratic values.
