YouTube will implement an artificial intelligence-based system to identify accounts held by minors and restrict access to adult content.

YouTube will use artificial intelligence to estimate the age of users based on their activity, thus identifying underage accounts. Once the AI determines that a user is under 18, the platform will apply restrictions, barring access to adult videos and personalized ads. Users will be notified of these restrictions, but will have to prove they are of legal age, which may involve providing sensitive information, affecting privacy. The measure will be implemented in the US from August 13.
