The youths, who wish to remain anonymous, filed the complaint in California, where xAI is headquartered, seeking class action status to represent thousands of similar victims, minors or who were minors when the images were created.

The complaint details how Jane Doe 1 was alerted that explicit sexual images of her were being distributed online, including a photo from her prom. The person who distributed the images was arrested by the police, having on their phone multiple images of 18 other girls. Although other AI companies have banned the generation of explicit sexual content, Musk has promoted the Grok chatbot's ability to create such content. The complaint alleges that xAI was aware of the risks of generating explicit images with minors but launched the technology anyway. The youths fear that the images will remain on the internet forever, affecting their mental health and social life.
