An internal analysis by the BBC shows that women of age are underrepresented in presenter roles, while men are considered more authoritative and knowledgeable.

A BBC internal analysis highlighted a significant disparity between the number of men and women of age occupying presenter roles. Men over 60 are considered more authoritative, while women must appear younger or develop idiosyncratic personalities to be accepted. For example, among presenters over 50, men significantly outnumber women (394 to 237). Additionally, in the content department, men over 60 are nearly four times more numerous than women.

The analysis was conducted by Anne Morrison and Chris Banatvala, at the request of the BBC board, and emphasized that women of age are often forced to transition from television to radio. Harriet Harman pointed out that women face discrimination based on age and gender, and Selina Scott criticized the lack of changes in this area. The analysis also showed that BBC programs do not utilize enough female experts in reports, although progress has been made in reducing the gender gap.
